Blizzard Bike Club Fort St. John, BC Sept 28, 2008

Blaine Richter of Grande Prairie won the final Challenge Cup race, Sunday and took home the ‘Race of the Fallen Leaves’ trophy. He held off Robin Baillie to win the Montney 60 km road race in a time of 1:36:16 hours. Colter Young was third at 1:36:23 and Pat Ferris 4th at 1:39:04. Darren Guliov was 5th at 1:45:53.
Other times were Peter King 6th at 1:46:16, Roger St. jean 1:46:28, Billy Bucknall 1:47:00, Gary Hilderman 1:52:20, Richard Wood 1:52:23, Sandy McDonald 1:52:45, Kathryn Fairweather 1:57:46, Sam Keats 1:58:23, Francis Plum 1:59:32 and Owen Giebelhaus 2:09:09. Gord Harris edged out Ken Nix in the 30 km at 1:03:45 hours.
The lead group of Blaine Richter, Pat Ferris, Robin Baillie, Colter Young, Billy Bucknall and the surprising Peter King all pulled away to the 30 km turn. Attacks on the hills further split the group to four riders. The elder Ferris was shed with 5 km to go and the winning trio pulling away. Richter attacked the downhill hard and used the gap to hold off his chasers on the fierce uphill finish.
The Blizzards won the day with 70 points to GP’s 14 to win the series again with 679 points to GP’s 334 and DC’s 231.
Sandy McDonald won the individual Challenge Cup points trophy with 41 points in the series. Pat Ferris won the Men’s trophy with 105 points.
Coming up:
-Thursday Cyclo cross at 6 pm from the high School.
-Sunday Cyclo cross double header. 10 am at the high school and 2 pm at Beatton River. Oct 10 and 11th are the Nationals in Edmonton.
